CHATHAM, Mass- As the rain fell on Veterans Field, the day before one of the most anticipated holidays in all of Cape Cod, the narrative started to set in.

After the other four scheduled games on the docket were cancelled in unison, the nightcap between the Orleans Firebirds and the Chatham Anglers appeared to be a no-go as well. That was confirmed at right around 6:00 pm local time.

The probable starting pitchers for Saturday’s game were Austin Vernon (North Carolina Central) for Chatham and Donovan Benoit (Tulane) for Orleans, which will likely be the same matchup for tomorrow night’s game at Eldredge Park.

As of now, the Firebirds sit first in the East Division at 5-4-1 although they are only behind the Y-D Red Sox in points with 11.

First pitch is slated for 7:00 pm for Sunday’s Fourth of July tilt against the A’s.
