HARWICH, Mass- The Orleans Firebirds hit an early bump in their 2021 campaign in game two against Chatham.

The Anglers had their way with Orleans, taking advantage of some shaky pitching in the middle innings while keeping the Birds’ bats silent for most of the evening.

They wouldn’t quite get the chance to bounce back in their second contest against the Harwich Mariners on Tuesday, as heavy rain put a permanent end to the game in the third inning. It’s the first cancellation in a season where no games will be made-up.

Yarmouth-Dennis’ win over Chatham was the only game that finished on Tuesday.

Right-hander Marquis Grissom Jr. (Georgia Tech) had it working in his first start, albeit shortened, striking out two while only surrendering one hit in two frames.

For the second consecutive night, the Firebirds looked off-balance against the opposing starter, this time facing Cam Schlittler (Northeastern), who struck out five in his three innings of work while only surrendering a single to center fielder Rylan Thomas (USC).

Orleans is back at home against the Cotuit Ketttleers on Thursday night at 7:00.
